I've known Lynda for over six years now as a colleague and as a friend. Lynda is a truly unique character - I recall vividly the first time I met her. Walking into the first office I'd ever worked in, Lynda was one of the first people to introduce herself to me with the rather intense "What's your sign?". She wasn't joking. I have to be honest - I've not got an enormous amount of time for things like that and my first impression was that perhaps Lynda and I would not get on. I was very wrong.
Lynda has an incredibly dry sense of humour and can both take and dish out a good joke. She also has an infectiously youthful manner about her that endears her to those who get to know her well. I regularly find myself slipping into talking to her in the same way and about the same things that I would talk to any other friend my own age. No matter whether I prevaricate about geopolitics, my favourite bands or an anecdote from my own past, Lynda listens avidly and has never yet been found wanting for an insightful and witty response.
Lynda has a big heart - she loves animals and spends lots of her time volunteering in her local community. She also has a wide range of interests - so wide in fact that even I don't know them all. But I'm always pleasantly surprised when an esoteric topic pops up in conversation and Lynda chimes in with an insight that otherwise, I'm sorry to say, would have escaped me completely.
The other thing you absolutely need to know about Lynda is that she is honest. I mean REALLY honest. Sometimes to the point of being just a tad cutting. That's not to say that she's incapable of being discreet, she absolutely is, but once you gain her trust Lynda will always tell you the unvarnished truth if you ask for it. She also won't be offended if you return the favour. I think this is one of her rarer and more endearing qualities.
In summation, I would have to say that Lynda is a truly brilliant woman. I'm proud to call her a friend and YOU would be lucky to take her out for a coffee and get to know her.
